Harry is happy to have another clean sheet….
Saturday’s victory over Cardiff City ensured it was pretty much the perfect afternoon for Harry Pickering, who played his part in a second successive win and make it back-to-back clean sheets.
Up against tricky customers in the form of Josh Bowler and then Ollie Tanner, Pickering produced a typically solid performance to ensure Rovers began a busy schedule in the right manner following the two-week International break.
Rovers had found shutouts hard to come by this term, but with two clean sheets in as many games, the 24-year-old is now hopeful a corner has been turned and the hard work is beginning to pay off.
“We worked throughout the international break on certain things and improving on the things we didn’t do well at the start of the season,” the left-back revealed to RoversTV following the 1-0 win against the Bluebirds that saw Joe Rankin-Costello’s first goal of the season prove to be the match-winning moment.
“We’ve become more solid out of possession and it’s about recognising numbers in certain areas of the pitch and crowding out any chance of opportunities coming against us.
“We play expansive football, but I don’t see why we can’t keep doing that and keeping it tight at the back, that’s what we’re working towards.
“It’s great to get a win. We knew it was going to be a tough game because they have some good players all over the pitch.
“We knew they’d be tricky opposition but we stuck to the game plan and it was a great finish from Ranks [Rankin-Costello] to get the win,” he added when discussing the three-point haul.
“Any win is satisfying. You always want to win by more goals, but when a 1-0 pays off and you get that clean sheet, it’s a great feeling.”
